The Lake Wylie Luau is administered by the Lake Wylie Rotary Club on behalf of its Foundation, the Lake Wylie Rotary Club Foundation, Inc, a 501(c)3 public charity. The Foundation’s mission is to impact our community through educational enhancement, promotion of youth activities, the promotion of good health, the fighting of poverty, and the improvement of our environment.
This year the Lake Wylie Rotary Club is partnering with other organizations, including the Rotary Club of Clover and the Rotary Foundation, to help the Clover Area Assistance Center convert to a full-choice food pantry – a change that will greatly enhance the agency’s ability to serve our neighbors in need. The total initial budget for that project was in excess of $23,000. The proceeds from our 2013 event will initially go to cover the Lake Wylie Rotary Club’s commitments to this project with the Clover Area Assistance Center and our partnering organizations.
Once those commitments are covered, any remaining funds raised will be used toward other LOCAL community projects and are typically geared toward youth. Some examples of projects that the Club have completed in prior years that they plan to continue supporting include:
- Reading Recovery Programs for students reading below grade level at Crowder’s Creek Elementary School
- Youth Water Safety & Literacy Programs such as Josh the Otter
- Upgrading facilities used by the Lake Wylie Athletic Association
- Funding the Spirit of Service Scholarship
- Supporting the Interact Club in local schools
- Backpack Program
